Heidi and Aaron’s 1930′s Vintage Wedding at the Canton Club

Remember Heidi and Aaron’s vintage picnic engagement session? If you liked that, you’ll definitely love the wedding. We knew going into it that this wedding was going to be unique and well executed and it did not disappoint. Everything down to the smallest of details stayed true to Heidi and Aaron’s vision of a wedding straight from the 1930′s. Heidi even went so far as to collect enough authentic cuff links and broaches from that time period to give out to the guests as favors.

Following the morning ceremony and brunch reception at the Canton Club in Downtown Canton we got to take our time making portraits of the two of them that we are quite proud of and that Heidi and Aaron will hopefully cherish for years to come. We even got the hookup to shoot inside the lobby of a local radio station where the interior decor fit right in with feel of the rest of the wedding.

Heidi and Aaron, thank you so much for making us a part of your day; we had a blast! Also a big thanks to Tricia from Always Eventful for helping the day go smoothly.

Brenna and Kurtis wed at the Wooster Inn

Sometimes wedding plans start one way but half through the planning process, the couple realizes the initial location is no longer a good fit for them. Such was the case for Kurtis and Brenna. They switched their ceremony location to the Oak grove on the college of Wooster campus, just outside Kauke Hall and the reception was held at the Wooster Inn. With all the lovely architecture and shade from the trees, we had plenty of photo opportunities to choose from although I’m convinced we could have put Brenna in front of anything and she would have made it look gorgeous. Thanks for having us capture your wedding! We had a blast with you both and your bridal party.

Ashley and Anthony’s Wedding at the McKinley Grand Hotel

Ashley and Anthony were the very first couple to book us for a 2011 date a little over two years ago when they first got engaged. Since then, we have gotten to know them through an engagement session and a family portrait session including the entire Cary clan so when it came to the wedding day, we felt right at home. The ceremony took place at the historic St. John the Baptist Parrish in Downtown Canton where Anthony’s family are long-time parishioners and where Anthony and his brothers were alter boys. Anthony’s Dad pulled a few strings in the Canton Fire Department and was able to arrange for a vintage fire engine for the getaway car, which might have been the highlight of the day. We then headed over to the McKinley Grand Hotel for a food station and cocktail reception.

The cherry on top for this wedding was again getting to work with one of the best planners and coordinators in the area, Tricia Dever from Always Eventful. She runs a tight ship, but you know that when she’s in charge, things will happen like clockwork. Thanks for all your hard work, Tricia!

Ashley and Anthony, thanks again for having us on your wedding day; we can’t wait to show you everything we got and we really look forward to photographing some little Richs in the future. Congrats!

Derrick and Katie’s wedding at Gervasi Vineyard

I must say I am a little disappointed… Disappointed we did not get to know Katie and Derrick better leading up to their wedding at Gervasi vineyard. They are such great and fun people with fantastic taste that we could easily see ourselves spending more time with talking about fonts Granted there was/are some challenges to that seeing they live in LA but we hope this isn’t the last of seeing them both. While we would have loved photographing in wine country in California, Gervasi was the perfect Ohio solution for their wedding to keep it close to family. Thank you for choosing us Katie and Derrick. It was truly a pleasure! Now enjoy the images.

As the night wore on, things got a little PG-13 when we spotted Katie and Derrick having a little “alone” time in the corner of the pavilion. I’m not sure they noticed us shooting as they were so deeply in the moment. This is what true love looks like.

Nicholas and Ashley’s Wedding at the Joseph Saxton Gallery of Photography and The Canton Club

Ashly and Nicholas’ wedding ceremony on Saturday took place at what might be the most distracting place for a photographer to shoot; a gallery of photography, and a good one at that. I found myself on multiple occasions getting sucked into a print on the wall, and for a moment, forgetting what I was there to do. Thankfully, I was quick to snap out of it and get back into it. It was strange to think about the fact that original prints from such greats as Saldago, Elliott Erwitt, Lebovitz, Mary Ellen Mark, and others were staring out at us as we worked. All in all, it was a fantastic place for a ceremony and we would love to shoot there again.

The reception was at the equally impressive Canton Club on the top floors of Chase Tower in Downtown, Canton. What could easily be described as the best spot in Canton, the 100 year old Club provided a beautiful and unique environment for Ashley and Nicholas.

If I had to guess, I’d say the gallery was Ashley’s idea since she’s an art teacher, and the Canton Club was Nicholas’ doing since he’s an architect. Am I right?

Andrea and Nick’s wedding at the Canton Cultural Center

Andrea and Nick’s wedding is the second wedding that we have shot for Andrea’s family, the first being Sean and Julia’s wedding from over 2 years ago. Surprisingly, I think I made it through the whole day without seriously putting my foot in my mouth. Surprising because while it was mostly the same cast of characters, everyone was playing a different role. Compared to 2 and a half years ago, the sister’s boyfriend is now the groom, the sister is now the bride, the bride is now a bridesmaid, the groom is now a groomsmen, and the parents of the groom are now the parents of the bride. Got that? Yeah, me neither.

Andrea and Nick were the quintessential sweetheart and the perfect gentleman to not only us, but to everyone around them. We felt quite honored to be a part of their day and they and their family made us feel quite comfortable and welcome from start to finish. Thank you!

Andrea’s Dad arrange to have a roasted pig brought at as a midnight snack. I was still stuffed from the amazing steak that was served for dinner, but I heard the pig tasted amazing.

Brad and Amanda’s wedding at the Courtyard Marriott

Amanda had a thing for Brad back in college. The first date however did not turn into a second one. It took a few years after a little maturing for their paths to cross again. That “thing” between them was still there and they attempted date #2. This time it stuck. Thankfully they were willing to give it another try which led to this beautiful wedding at Fieldcrest and Courtyard Marriott.

They played it smart when planning their Canton wedding. Since their reception was so close to the Jackson Hot Air Balloon Festival, the guests and couple enjoyed a lovely fireworks display at the end of the night. We of course couldn’t pass up the photo opportunity it presented.

The best card trick I’ve ever seen. We all watched Amanda write those initials and date on that card, fold it up, and put it between her teeth. Somehow, it ended up in his hands, and his card ended up between her teeth.

The wedding being featured is the one of Brett and Julia. If you follow our blog, you’ll probably remember their wedding inspired by old world European meet post-war America at the Canton Club in November. Brett and Julia’s kickin’ vintage wedding at the Canton Club

Early in the booking process, Julia figured out the most direct, and fastest path to my heart; a totally unannounced and utterly unexpected box of roughly twenty music CDs shipped to our studio. I was familiar with most of the bands, but I didn’t own any of the albums in the box. This was like Christmas times eight for me.

Brett and Julia met while working ar a large music distribution company in California. One of the perks of a job like this are copious amounts of music sitting around one’s cubicle which I would assume was a likely source of the music that Julia sent to us. What was scary was just how precisely she had nailed our musical tastes. Several of the albums that she sent are still in heavy rotation around the office.

If I told you where they got these frickin’ sweet Glen Plaid three piece suits, you wouldn’t believe me. I may just have to get one.

The space at the Canton Club on the 14th floor of the Chase building in Canton was the perfect setting for the reception. It provided the perfect setting for Brett and Julia’s vintage theme as well as some amazing views of downtown Canton.

Travis and Andrea’s wedding at Glenmoor Country Club

I’m willing to bet that when Travis wandered into the jewelry store where Andrea worked to buy a watch, he had no idea that that watch purchase would lead them here. I suppose one could say that walking in for a watch, then walking out with a watch and a future wife is a bit more than he bargained for, but I didn’t hear anyone complaining. But there we were, many months later, getting ready to celebrate with Andrea and Travis at the beautiful Glenmoor Country Club in Canton, Ohio.

Luckily, a few classic cars still hanging around from the Glenmoor Gathering of Significant Automobiles last weekend, so we put one to use.
