Lauren and Anthony’s wedding at St. Christophers and The Ritz Carlton in Cleveland

We sneak peeked this wedding many months ago and it’s about high time it got it’s moment to shine here on the blog. Anthony and Lauren came up from Oklahoma City to Cleveland to be married on a crisp, but sunny March afternoon. Both Lauren and Anthony started their day at the Ritz Carlton then off we went to St. Christopher in Rocky River for the ceremony. Weather can be a bit unpredictable in March (well, some would say predictably awful) for Anthony and Lauren wisely secured a time slot for an indoor location to shoot with the bridal party. We were still able to spend some time outside but it didn’t take long for the 40 degree weather to catch up to the bridesmaids in their sleeveless dresses. Lauren toughed it out for longer than I would have predicted and we were able to get some great stuff as a result.

Floral decor at the Ritz was handled by the very talented Pieter Bouterse Studio with entertainment by Indiana Based Blammo!

Kevin and Carolina’s wedding at St. Dominic and The Union Club

Astute blog readers might remember Kevin and Carolina from a few months ago when we shot their engagement session. Well, their day finally came, and what a day it was. Weather in Northeast Ohio just doesn’t get any better than it was on Saturday. Perfect temperatures and low humidity made being and shooting outside a joy. The ceremony took place at the beautiful Church of St. Dominic in Shaker Heights followed by a reception at The Union Club in downtown Cleveland. Our new friend Ryan from Chicago based Beep Media kept the dance floor bouncing all night and reminded us once again that we don’t hear nearly enough New Order at wedding receptions.

Sisters London and Hudson are quite the pair: active, adorable, sometimes serious and loving to practice posing for the camera. With a mom that is a trunk keeper for Matilda Jane, they also have quite the wardrobe. Sadly the heat shortened the session but that did not affect the resulting images!

Steve and Hilary’s wedding at the Catawba Island Club

Hilary and Steve took a big gamble when planning a lakeside wedding but it paid off big time. With their love of water, it made sense to have a wedding close to and overlooking Lake Erie. With the cool breeze, no rain and lovely sunset I’m not sure the couple could have ordered a better day. An added benefit was to have Hilary’s uncle bring his restaured Chevy pickup truck for photos which is the only reason Steve agreed to marry Hilary

Thank you for including us in your Catawba Island Club wedding! It was a night we will not soon forget.

Grace and Kim’s Wedding at Severance Hall

As foretold by a homeless guy in NYC, Kim and Grace were wed this past Saturday at the beautiful Fairmount Presbyterian Church with a gorgeous reception at the historic Severance Hall in Cleveland Ohio. Legend has it that a homeless man spotted Kim and Grace in NYC while they were on one of their early dates and boldly proclaimed that they were in fact a match made in heaven. If I had to guess, I’d say that’s a story that will survive and be passed down for many generations.

We started the day early at the nearby Intercontinental Hotel then made our way over to wade oval where Grace and Kim had their first meet. We shot as long as the sky held back the rain which luckily, didn’t really let go until after the ceremony. I guess this is just our year for dodging rain at weddings.

The reception was a beautiful event with floral decor by Pieter Bouterse, Entertainment by The Avenue, and the graceful, yet firm hand of Amy Hissa from At Last Event Planning to pull it all together. We also got to make some new friends with the videography team that Grace and Kim brought up form Nashville. NE Ohio, we’d love to introduce you to FocalPoint Cinematic! These guys worked their butts off and I can’t wait to see the trailer when it’s ready.

It came out at one point that Kim is a big fan of the Jewish tradition of the hora, so hey, why not have a hora?

Sean and Keri’s Cleveland wedding

With close to two years between the date Sean and Keri booked us and the actual wedding date, we had plenty of time to talk plans, schedules and build up a lot of anticipation. Sure enough the wedding exceeded our expectations. It was refreshing to witness such a personal and meaningful ceremony.

Large bridal parties can be hard to organize and photograph but not this group: maybe they have found a side career “bridal party for hire”. It was such a fun and cooperative group. Thanks for the good time and laughs everyone!

Ryan and Kate’s Wedding at the Union Club

Ryan and Kate’s wedding was the latest installment of what just might be our longest running legacy of referrals, spanning back more than five years. Amy and Chris referred Julie and Bryan who referred Stephanie and Chris who referred Erin and Dave who referred Ryan and Kate. If you dig through the blog long enough, you will probably be able to find all of those weddings, with the exception of Amy and Chris who got married before we started blogging.

What started out as a rainy, gray day broke free form some beautiful weather for photos of the bridal party and family in the flats. We finished the day at one of our favorite reception locations, The Union Club in downtown Cleveland.

One decision that Ryan made that we don’t see that often was to make his Dad the Best Man. I thought that was a really cool idea and speaks a lot about how highly Ryan and Kate regard family.

I have a weakness for timepieces in general.

This is not something that we do very often but Ryan and I kind of hit it off as the day wore on and at the end of the night, Ryan asked for a photo with me. I happened to still be holding the video light from the series of images that we had just created so I just turned it on myself and Ryan.

Ashley and Nick’s Engagement Session in Kent, Ohio

For Ashley and Nick’s engagement session, I got to travel out to a part of Ohio that I don’t end up in very often; Kent, Ohio. Ashley and Nick first met while attending Kent State, so it only made sense to use the campus and downtown area for their engagement session.

Evidently, one of Kent State’s long standing traditions involves a large rock which students and alumni are free to paint, spray paint, and decorate as they wish. Considering the one or two inch think layer of paint on the rock, it must be a long standing tradition. Ashley and Nick arrived early and with the help of a brother, completely white-washed the rock to give them a nice clean canvas to write their wedding date on for the save the date cards. I love it when people get creative on how to personalize things about their wedding.

Arabella enjoyed a solo portrait session without her two brother in honor of her birthday. This little girl is so expressive. I’m sure her mom sees even more variety than the stern to giggly expressions I captured during the session. Happy birthday cutie!

Rupesh and Ajanta’s Indian wedding at the Cleveland Renaissance

One of the hardest parts about shooting Rupesh and Ajanta’s wedding was trying to keep the number of blog images down to a reasonable number. With so much going on, and so many things to photograph, this blog post could go on an on for several pages. Even though the festivities officially began four or five days earlier, and were set to continue the following weekend in Texas, we were able to meet up with Ajanta and Rupesh for the climax of the wedding celebration; the baraat, ceremony, and the formal reception, all taking place at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Cleveland.

We were lucky to get the baraat in before all of Cleveland was pummeled by on heck of a thunderstorm, which we all got to enjoy from the safety of a hotel suite between the ceremony and reception. After the ceremony, and after everyone had changed into their evening attire, we had a chance to jump back outside for a few photos on Public Square before sky started to threaten again.

We were both very grateful for how welcoming Ajanta, Rupesh, and their families were to us. They made us feel quite at ease amongst the whirlwind of transitions and customs that were for the most part foreign to us.
